Penny-pinching police chiefs are attacking the pensions paid to hero officers injured in the line of duty. The Home Office has published guidance for members of the Police Pension Scheme on the public service pension schemes consultation, which was launched on 16 July 2020, concerning proposals to remove the age discrimination identified in the policy of transitional protection that was part of the 2015 reforms to public service pension schemes. For more please click here A Pensions Remedy Update 21 February 2020 An update with FAQs relevant to all members on the remedy to remove discriminatory provisions from the police pension schemes has been released today, (21 Feb 2020) by The Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW.) Discussions in the TWG focus on how best to achieve this, as well as considering other knock-on effects that any remedy will have, such as the impact on contributions, taxation, and – crucially – on the most vulnerable, such as officers who have ill-health-retired. These include seeking reassurances that officers will have access to sufficient information and potentially, independent financial advice to assist in understanding which scheme provides them the better outcome.
